Four Held for Assaulting and Extorting School Students in Bhilai, Two Juveniles Detained

Raipur: Durg police have arrested two men and detained two juveniles for allegedly assaulting and extorting money from school students in Khursipar, Bhilai. The accused allegedly threatened students and demanded cash to buy liquor.

According to police, the accused targeted students travelling to and from school. They intercepted them at isolated locations, physically assaulted them, and forced them to hand over money. Students who resisted were allegedly intimidated and beaten.

The case came to light after Mohammad Shabbir, a resident of Khursipar, lodged a complaint at the Khursipar Police Station on Monday night. He alleged that a group of youths had been routinely harassing schoolchildren in the area. Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.

A police team reached the area near Madni Masjid in the Madrasa Zone-02 locality during school hours on Tuesday. After questioning students and local residents, the complainant and victims identified two of the accused as Yuvraj Sahu (19), a resident of Dr Rajendra Prasad Nagar, Khursipar, and Shekhar Gupta (21), a resident of HCL Colony near Telha Nala, Khursipar.

During interrogation, both accused allegedly confessed to their involvement. Police arrested them on Tuesday and produced them before a court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

Police also initiated separate proceedings against the two juveniles under the Juvenile Justice Act. Investigators said the accused used two motorcycles to approach students and carried a wooden hockey stick to intimidate them. The police seized both motorcycles and the hockey stick.

The operation was led by Inspector Laxman Kevat, in-charge of Khursipar Police Station, along with his team.

Durg police have appealed to parents, students, and citizens to immediately report any incidents of assault, intimidation, or extortion to the nearest police station or the police control room. Police said the safety of schoolchildren remains a top priority and assured strict legal action against offenders.
