Southwest Monsoon Advances; Chhattisgarh Likely to Receive Rainfall Activity from June 12

Raipur

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon, which reached parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.

According to the weather department, conditions remain favourable for the monsoon’s further progress. Over the next three to four days, the Southwest Monsoon is expected to advance into parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, and parts of Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim.

For Chhattisgarh, the weather department has forecast light rainfall or thundershowers at one or two places on June 8. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning are also likely at isolated locations across the state.

Meteorologists indicated that there is little likelihood of any significant change in maximum temperatures in the immediate future. However, weather conditions are expected to become more favourable for rainfall activity as the monsoon progresses.

The department has further predicted an increase in rainfall activity across Chhattisgarh from June 12 onward, raising hopes of relief from the prevailing heat and paving the way for the onset of the monsoon season in the state.

With the monsoon steadily advancing across eastern and northeastern India, residents and farmers in Chhattisgarh are closely monitoring weather developments, as the arrival of seasonal rains is crucial for agriculture, water resources, and Kharif crop cultivation in the state.
