Inter-State Drug Peddler Arrested with Heroin in Raipur

Raipur: Amanaka police on Sunday arrested an inter-state drug peddler for allegedly smuggling heroin from Punjab to Chhattisgarh. The accused, identified as Satnam Singh alias Lodi, was apprehended near a tea stall on the New Bypass Bilaspur Road while searching for buyers.

Police recovered 29 grams of heroin, commonly known as ‘chitta‘, from his possession. While Singh is a native of Moga district, Punjab, he had been residing in the Jarway area of Raipur to carry out his illegal activities.

Acting on a tip-off from a whistleblower, an Amanaka police team cordoned off the area near Veer Singh’s tea stall. Upon searching the suspect, officials found the contraband and booked him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Raipur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Lall Umed Singh said the police are interrogating the accused to trace the supply chain. “We are investigating the source of heroin in Punjab and identifying the local distributors he was in contact with in Raipur,” the SSP said.

This arrest is part of ‘Operation Nishchay‘, a dedicated campaign by the Raipur police to curb the drug menace in the capital. Since the beginning of January, police have arrested over 10 individuals involved in the sale of heroin, cannabis, and psychotropic tablets. Senior officials confirmed the crackdown on narcotics traffickers will continue across the district.
