Admn attaches notorious Tomar brothers’ properties in Raipur

Raipur
The administration, in a major crackdown on usury, has attached the luxurious bungalow of the notorious Tomar brothers in Bhathagaon. The action was carried out in the presence of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) NK Choubey. The attached property includes 1,500 square feet each belonging to brothers Rohit and Virendra Tomar.

The action was taken on the orders of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM). The court order prohibits any alterations to the house or sale of the property without its permission. Earlier, the Raipur Municipal Corporation had demolished Rohit Tomar’s illegal office with a bulldozer.

The police had petitioned the court to attach the property. The court had issued a final warning for the brothers to appear by 18 August. The Tomar brothers have been absconding for two months and did not appear in court.

The police began their search for the brothers after a property dealer, Dashmeet Chawla, filed a police complaint at Telibandha police station two months ago, alleging that Rohit Tomar had assaulted him. Following Rohit’s disappearance, his brother Virendra also went into hiding. Police teams were sent to several states, but no arrests have been made.

The victims of the Tomar brothers’ criminal activities are now approaching the police to file complaints. Initially, fear of the brothers and their associates prevented them from reporting the crimes. Over six FIRs have been registered against the brothers, alleging illegal extortion, threats, and violations of the Chhattisgarh Moneylenders Act.

Rohit Tomar is a history-sheeter with over nine cases registered against him at different police stations, including Rajendra Nagar, Telibandha, Purani Basti, Kotwali, and Gudhiyari. He has been jailed previously for moneylending, assault, and blackmail. Rohit, known as the “Golden Man” in the district, maintained his influence by making frequent appearances at events with his associates.

A year ago, after the Hyper Club shooting in Raipur, the police had half-shaved the heads of the accused and paraded them. Rohit Tomar, Vikas Agarwal, Sarang Mandhan, and Amit Taneja were arrested in that incident.
