Meeting of the Task Force constituted for the Elimination of Single-Use Plastic concluded

Raipur: The third meeting of the task force, constituted for the elimination of single use plastic, was chaired by Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain at Mantralaya late on Friday. In the meeting, the Chief Secretary directed the officers to ensure effective implementation of the comprehensive action plan for the elimination of single use plastic. He directed the officers to take necessary steps to promote the use of utensil banks, cloth, paper bags and dona-pattal as an alternative to single-use plastic. 

Chief secretary said in his address that there is a need to create mass awareness about the hazards of using single-use plastic. He instructed the officers to ensure wide publicity of the cause as per the action plan. In the meeting, detailed information was provided through a presentation about various activities being conducted by the Urban Administration and Development Department to eliminate the single-use plastic. 

He instructed the officials of the Housing and Environment Department to chalk out necessary guidelines for elimination of single-use plastic from government offices and to take necessary action in coordination with the General Administration Department for its implementation. Officers have also been directed to encourage students to make models regarding the elimination of single-use plastic in science exhibitions organized in schools and colleges.

Jain further said that the Collectors should prepare an action plan to ban the single-use plastic in their respective districts. Collectors have also been directed to coordinate with the urban bodies and panchayats to ensure effective implementation of the action plan. Chief Secretary has also asked officials of airports, railway stations, industrial areas and other organizations including public sector undertakings to take necessary action for single-use plastic ban. 

Officials of Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology including Housing and Environment, Commerce and Industry, Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Urban Administration, Chhattisgarh Paryavaran Mandal, along with Special Secretary of Urban Administration Department Ayaz Tamboli participated in this meeting organized through video conferencing.
