Several Congress leaders and workers were injured when the stage set for a meeting to show solidarity with Rahul Gandhi collapsed in Bilaspur.

A dozen Congress leaders sustained injuries when the stage on which they were standing and addressing a gathering as part of a torch rally organised to show solidarity with Rahul Gandhi collapsed in Bilaspur on Sunday evening. Parliamentary secretary Rashmi Singh and other Congress leaders were injured in the incident, which led to chaos.
The stage was for the meeting at Devkinandan Chowkin Bilaspur and a torchlight peace march was organised against the termination of Rahul Gandhi’s membership from the Lok Sabha after he was convicted and sentenced to a two-year jail term for his alleged remarks, “How come all the thieves have Modi as the surname”.
Amidst the commotion, State Congressman in Charge Kumari Selja was able to address the workers for a few minutes. The torchlight peace march reached Devkinandan Chowk from Gandhi Chowk for the meeting. There was a crowd, and the stage was too small to accommodate all the Congress leaders present on this occasion.
During the meeting, Congress leaders and workers climbed onto the stage, causing the dais to shake. The workers were advised to get down from the platform, but no one listened, and as a result, the stage collapsed within seconds after the Congress workers climbed. Fortunately, Kumari Selja delayed by minutes before addressing the crowd.
State Congress President Mohan Markam, In-Charge Secretary Chandan Yadav, Parliamentary Secretary Rashmi Singh, District Congress President Vijay Kesharwani, City Congress President Vijay Pandey, Mayor Ramsharan Yadav, and District Cooperative Bank President Pramod Nayak were present. As soon as the stage broke, there was chaos in the assembly.
