Chhattisgarh: Vanbaghera women undertake unique initiative of producing fish pickle
Raipur: The efforts made by Chhattisgarh Government to promote rural women’s economic empowerment by connecting them with self-help groups and providing employment and business opportunities have brought a paradigm shift in rural areas of the state.
Availing the benefits of government schemes women in rural areas are undertaking innovative initiatives to boost their income. One such example is of women associated with the Jai Budha Dev Group of Vanbaghera who have undertaken a unique initiative to produce fish pickles.
“The officials of Panchayat told us that everyone makes pickles using fruits or vegetables, why don’t you all try something new. We suggested that people are fond of eating fish and we can try making pickles using it. Then we started producing fish pickles using fishes belonging to Pangasius species. Fish pickles worth Rs 5,000 were sold at the Gauthan fair. Keeping in view the future possibilities and its demand, regular production of fish pickle was started”, said Sarita Mandavi.
She added that the cost of 1kg fish pickle is Rs 50. In the training session, we were encouraged to do something innovative and we did. The state government led by chief minister Bhupesh Baghel is promoting out-of-the-box ideas and have taken several initiatives to promote women’s empowerment.
