BJP MLA Domanlal Korsewada Passes Away at 78

Raipur, October 30.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Domanlal Korsewada passed away at the age of 78 in Hyderabad on Friday. He was suffering from a lung ailment and undergoing treatment at Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad. His death has cast a pall of gloom over the Ahiwara assembly constituency, Durg-Bhilai, and political circles across Chhattisgarh.
Born on 12 August 1948, Korsewada pursued a Master’s degree in Political Science and a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree from Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University in Raipur. He served as a lecturer before retiring from the education sector in 1998 to enter active politics. In 1999, he worked as the personal assistant to the then Member of Parliament for the Durg Lok Sabha constituency.
Korsewada won his maiden election in 2008 from the Ahiwara Assembly seat on a BJP ticket. The seat slipped from the party in the 2013 and 2018 assembly elections, when Congress candidate Guru Rudra Kumar secured victory.
The BJP fielded Korsewada again in the 2023 assembly elections. He defeated Congress candidate Nirmal Kosre by a margin of 25,263 votes, securing 96,717 votes against 71,454 votes polled by his rival.
During his first term as MLA, he was appointed chairman of the Chhattisgarh Vikas Parishad in 2010, with cabinet minister status. He also served on various assembly committees related to the welfare of Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). Following his re-election in 2023, he headed the Assembly Library Committee and served on other panels.
The state government appointed him vice-chairman of the Scheduled Caste Development Authority in October 2025, a position he assumed in November 2025. He held this office alongside his responsibilities as the MLA representing the Ahiwara constituency at the time of his death.
