Savitri Mandavi, wife of late Manoj Mandavi, wins Bhanupratappur byelection

Savitri Mandavi defeated BJP’s BramhanandNetam by a margin of over 20,000 votes

The Congress candidate, Savitri Mandavi, said the focus will be on the development of the area

The Congress has captured the Bhanupratappurassembly byelection, result of which was declared on Thursday. Congress candidate Savitri Mandavi defeated BJP’s BramhanandNetam by 21,171 votes, giving the party workers reason to celebrate.

Savitri Mandavi, wife of late Chhattisgarh legislative assembly speaker Manoj Mandavi,expressed gratitude to the public and said she will try her best to live up to the expectations of the people. Whatever promises have been made, efforts will be made to implement them soon.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that the people’s trust on the government is intact and this outcome is the proof of it. The result is the stamp on the good works done by ManojMandavi, he said.

A total of 1,41,662 votes were polled in the byelection. Congress candidate Savitri Mandavigot 65,479 votes, BJP candidate got 44,308 votes and tribal candidate former IPS officer Akbarram Korram got 23,417 votes. and NOTA got 4251 votes.

Excise Minister Kawasi Lakhma was seen dancing to the beats of drums along with the workers after the victory. 

Voting was held on December 5 in 256 polling booths for the assembly by-elections. Tribal reservation was the biggest issue in the election. BJP candidate Bramhanand Netamwas accused of rape by the Congress.

Akbar Ram Korram was made candidate by the Sarv Adivasi Samaj. 

Congress MLA from Bhanupratappur, ManojKumar Mandavi died of a heart attack on the morning of October 16. After that this seat was declared vacant. 

BJP candidate Bramhanand Netam became MLA from Bhanupratappur in 2008. He had defeated Manoj Mandavi only. But after this Mandavi won the election in 2013. In the 2018 elections, the BJP tried Devlal Dugga, who had been an MLA in 2003, but he too lost from Mandavi. Dugga’s name was in the BJP’s panel, but the party has reposed faith in Brahmanandin his place in the by-poll.

By-elections have been held in Chhattisgarh every year since the formation of the Congress government in 2018. In Dantewada, Chitrakot, Marwahi, Khairagarh, candidates of the ruling Congress have registered a one-sided victory. In the last four elections, the only Chitrakoteseat was in Congress’s account in the 2018 general elections.
