Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly adjourned 

sine die two days ahead of schedule 

Opposition BJP questioned the role of the Speaker for a change in agenda without intimation to the Opposition members.

The five-day winter session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die on Wednesday, two days before it was scheduled to end, amid pandemonium created by the opposition BJP over various issues including the change of agenda.

The BJP also announced to boycott all the events of the Assembly from now on describing the change in agenda without any suggestion as an insult to the Opposition. The winter session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly was scheduled to be held from January 2 to 6. 

The Opposition started creating chaos as soon as the question hour of the House began on Wednesday alleging a scam in the distribution of rice under the Pradhan Mantri Garib KalyanYojana. 

Angered by the government’s reply, the BJP MLAs trooped into the well of the House following which they were suspended by the Speaker Dr Charandas Mahant who also adjourned the proceedings for a few minutes.

When the proceedings of the assembly resumed, the opposition resorted to a chaos, making the Speaker to announce another adjournment for a few minutes. The Opposition MLAs san on dharna in the well of the House.

The Speaker then changed the agenda of the proceedings before the resumption of the proceedings for the third time and included the election of deputy speaker of the House a day later, the post of deputy speaker was lying vacant after the death of Manoj Mandavi. 

The BJP members infuriated over the change in agenda without intimation. MLA BrijmohanAgrawal called it an insult to the Opposition. In the midst of this uproar, the government introduced two bills which were passed without discussion. After that the election of the Deputy Speaker was announced and the proceedings of the House were adjourned indefinitely.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Narayan Chandel wrote a letter to the Speaker of the Assembly, questioning the role of the Speaker. Chandel wrote that the Speaker has deprived them of their right to work by keeping the Opposition unaware about the last moment change. The Assembly session was also adjourned sine die two days before its schedule which is an insult to the Opposition. Chandelwrote, the Opposition is feeling humiliated by this style of working and therefore the Opposition has decided to not participate in any event of the Assembly. 

The Opposition BJP has decided to skip the event in which outstanding MLAs of the Assembly will be honoured.
