Rally Kosa to be procured at support price in Bastar under Silk Mission, local residents to get double the benefits from the production and processing of Rally Kosa

Raipur: As per the
instructions of chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, important decisions have been
taken in the interest of tribal farmers and forest dwellers engaged in
sericulture and Kosa production in Bastar division. In the same sequence, Rally
Kosa will now be procured by Chhattisgarh State Minor Forest Produce
Association on support price.

Meanwhile, Baghel had
announced the commencement of Silk Mission in Bastar in his budget speech. In
accordance with this announcement, state government has decided to procure
cocoons at minimum support price from current year, through the Minor Forest
Produce Association. Orders in this regard have been issued by the Minor Forest
Produce Association on Tuesday.

Chhattisgarh State
Minor Forest Produce Association has fixed the minimum support price for
procurement of Rally Kosa in Bastar division, which are as followed- Rally Kosa
is Rs 4.20 per unit shell weight 2.5 grams in Whole Grade-1, Rs 3.60 for 2-2.49
grams per unit shell weight in Grade-2 and Rs 1.4-1.99 grams per unit shell
weight in Grade-3, Rs 2.80 for Rally Kosa-Poli Grade-1 and Rs.1.50 for 2.5
grams per unit shell weight, Rs.1.25 for 2-2.49 grams per unit shell weight in
Grade-2 and Rs 0.70 per unit shell weight 1.4-1.99 grams in Grade-3. Forest and
Climate Change Minister Mr. Mohammad Akbar informed that this important
decision of the government would help the local residents to receive double
benefits from production and processing of Rally Kosa.

Providing further
information in the context, Managing Director, State Minor Forest Produce
Association, Sanjay Shukla said that chief minister has given instructions to
create more employment opportunities at local level by increasing the local
processing of rally Kosa in the state. 
And in the same sequence, MoU was signed between State Minor Forest
Produce Federation and the Directorate of Sericulture, under which the cocoons
procured by Minor Forest Produce Association will be supplied to the Silk
Department. Moreover, Silk Department has selected 740 beneficiaries in Bastar
division and they are being provided the training in silk threading. He
informed that 8 to 10 crore rally cocoons are produced in the state of
Chhattisgarh annually. Rally cocoon collection work is mainly done in 07
district unions including Jagdalpur, Dantewada, Sukma, Kondagaon, Keshkal, Narayanpur
and Kanker.
