Chhattisgarh ranks first in the quality of roads in PMGSY

The progress of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in various states was reviewed in an online meeting held under the chairmanship of Union Minister of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Giriraj Singh. 

Union Ministers of State for Rural Development Faggan Singh Kulaste and Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti also attended the meeting. 

Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Singh Deo informed about the progress of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in the meeting that 8547 roads of more than 42 thousand kilometers have been approved in the state under the first, second and third phases of the scheme. Tenders have been approved for the construction of 38 roads of a total length of 176 km in Naxal affected areas. Re-tendering process for 54 roads of remaining 277 km is underway. He said that work is being done at a fast pace ensuring quality to complete the construction of roads and bridges in the stipulated time-limit. 

Chhattisgarh ranks first in the quality of roads. In the current financial year 2021-22, 393 inspections of completed and work-in-progress roads have been done by the National Quality Reviewers, in which none are in the unsatisfactory category.

Deo informed that in the third phase of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna, a road length of 5612 km was allotted to the state. The state has been the first by getting the approval of all these roads in two phases. Under this, the construction of all the approved roads will be completed by March-2022. 

He urged the Union Ministry of Rural Development to sanction additional roads of 2000 km length. He urged to implement the allocation in the ratio of 60:40 in the works of renovation and maintenance of roads, just as the availability of allocation in the ratio of 60:40 is ensured in the construction works. He informed that the construction of 20 major bridges will be completed by March-2022 and 24 in the next financial year 2022-23.

Deo told the Union Minister for Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Giriraj Singh that four new modules have been started on e-portal for effective implementation of schemes of Panchayat and Rural Development Department in the state. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, out of 10.97 lakh houses approved for the state, the construction of 8.23 lakh houses has been completed. On receiving the state share, he urged the Government of India to give back to the state the permission for construction of houses under the scheme.
