Five Naxalites killed in Bastar encounter

A confrontation erupted between police forces and Naxalites in Bastar, Chhattisgarh. The encounter unfolded at the junction of the Dantewada, Narayanpur, and Bastar districts. Throughout the day, intermittent gunfire was reported, leading to the death of five Naxalites. Security forces recovered the bodies and weapons from the site. Several Naxalites sustained injuries, and three security personnel were also wounded.

Reports indicated that police obtained information about a significant Naxalite presence in the jungles of Mungeri and Gobel villages in the East Bastar division. Acting on this tip, teams from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Dantewada, Narayanpur, Jagdalpur, and Kondagaon districts were deployed to the area on Thursday.

It is reported that more than 1,200 personnel were involved in a search operation in the region. Intermittent gunfire between police and Naxalites began from Friday morning.

Following the encounter, security forces conducted a search operation, recovering the bodies of five Naxalites and their weapons. Personnel remain at the site, and the search operation is ongoing.
