CM Baghel announces to procure 20 quintals paddy per acre at support price

Raipur: Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday announced in the Legislative Assembly that in the interest of farmers, the government will purchase paddy at the support price at the rate of 20 quintals per acre.

He made this announcement in response to the discussion on the appropriation bill in the Chhattisgarh Assembly. After the discussion, the appropriation bill for 2023 was passed.

“Farmers are the backbone of our state’s economy. The whole world is facing a food crisis today. The main reason behind this is that agriculture is not profitable. Soon after formation of our government, we waived the loans of the farmers and are making them empowered through the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana. We are also providing them with the benefit of input subsidy. We are going to increase the purchase of paddy at the support price from 15 quintals per acre to 20 quintals per acre. Everywhere I went during my state-wide ‘Bhent-Mulaqat’ programme, the farmers only demanded to raise the limit of purchase paddy at the support price to 20 quintals per acre” Baghel said.

He added that the state’s growth rate in the agriculture sector was 5.93 per cent, while the national growth rate stood at 3.50 per cent, the state’s growth rate in the industrial sector was 7.83 per cent, while the national growth rate stood at 4.10 per cent, similarly, the state’s growth rate in the service sector was 9.21 per cent and the national growth rate stood at 9.10 per cent. The revenue of the state’s own taxes is estimated to increase to Rs 38,000 crore in the year 2023-24 (77 per cent increase) as compared to Rs 21, 427 crore in the year 2018-19.
