
Raipur The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at the residence of a BJP leader and businessman Gopal Modi in Korba and other parts of the state on Friday. Raids were ongoing since Friday morning in Korba, Durg, and Tilda. It is reported that these raids were related to investigations into corruption in the rice milling and business sectors. The ED has conducted searches at the locations of rice mills and businessmen involved in these areas. They conducted searches at the premises of Tirupati Balaji Industries and Amit Rice Industries in Tilida near Raipur. In Durg, the ED conducted searches at the residence of Kailash Rungta, who is the president of the Rice Mill Association and a businessman involved in the education sector. Kailash Rungta is an old rice miller in the region. ED teams also arrived at different locations in Durg and Bhilai, where Kailash Rungta’s businesses are situated. The ED teams are examining documents as part of their investigation. Kailash Rungta’s house in Kadambari Nagar, Durg, has also been searched by the ED. The owner of a hotel, Kamal Agrawal, is also under investigation, with searches being carried out at his farmhouse. There is news of the ED’s arrival in Vaishali Nagar, Bhilai, but it has not been confirmed yet. Both Kailash Rungta and Kamal Agrawal are rice millers, with Kamal Agrawal also being involved in the hotel business. In Korba district, a five-member ED team conducted searches at the locations associated with Gopal Modi, senior BJP leader. They raided Gopal Modi’s residence in Seetamani, Korba, at 6 am. The team entered from both sides of the house and conducted searches at his premises. Gopal Modi currently serves as the District Treasurer of the BJP. He has previously held the position of President of the Rice Mill Association. Gopal Modi owns petrol pumps and Chitra Tokies in Korba city and is the owner of four rice mills. He has a strong political presence and had contested in the legislative assembly elections. Gopal Modi is known to have a close association with BJP MLA Nankiram Kanwar, who is a prominent leader in the region. They were partners in a local cable network business a few years ago.
