Chhattisgarh Assembly elections: Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel among 30 candidates in first list of Congress

Raipur Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Deputy Chief Minister T S Singhdeo, Speaker Dr Charandas Mahant, Bastar MP and party state president Deepak Baij among others who have found a place in the first list of 30 candidates unveiled by the Congress party for the assembly elections which will be held in two phases on November 7 and 17 respectively. Eight sitting MLAs did not receive tickets, while all ministers have been given the opportunity to contest. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will contest the election from Patan.

Yashoda Varma has been given a ticket from Khairagarh. She had won the Khairagarh by-election. Devvrat Singh, who was a Jogo Congress MLA, later joined the Congress. After his passing, the seat became vacant, and Yashoda Varma won the election. The party has shown confidence in her again. The list includes 3 candidates from the Scheduled Caste category and 14 candidates from the Scheduled Tribe category. Four women have been nominated as candidates, and one candidate belongs to the minority community. The Congress has not given tickets to 8 incumbent MLAs. Among those left out are Mamta Chandrakar, Channi Sahu, Rajman Banjare, Devati Karma, Anup Nag, Bhuvaneshwar Baghel, Gurudayal Banjare, and Shishupal Sori. One MP has also entered the fray. Rajman Benjamin, an MLA from Chitrakoot, did not receive a ticket. Deepak Baij, the Pradesh Congress Committee president, will now contest from there. Tamrdhwaj Sahu from Durg Gramin, Daileshwar Sahu from Dongargarh, and Bholaram Sahu from Khujji have been given the opportunity to contest. Bholaram Sahum, who was not given ticket last time, has replaced Channi Sahu who was denied ticket this time for her alleged anti-party activities. From the Karma family, Chhavindra Karma has been given a chance. The ticket was denied to the incumbent MLA, but it remained within the family. Guru Rudra Kumar, who had contested from Ahivara last election, will now contest from Navagarh.
