Wrong-Side Driving in State Capital Will Now Come at a High Cost

Raipur
Driving on the wrong side of the road in the state capital is becoming a costly affair. The Municipal Corporation and Traffic Police have implemented tyre killers on certain city roads, effectively putting an end to wrong-side driving.

These tyre killers, resembling speed bumps, have spikes that puncture tyres upon attempted passage, causing not only punctures but also extensive damage, requiring tyre replacement. Installed at key locations such as Ring Road Number 1, Expressway Fafadih One Way, and Gaurav Path Multilevel Parking, these tyre killers are part of a pilot project supervised by the Municipal Corporation and Traffic Police to enhance road safety, deter wrong-side driving, and improve traffic management.
Signboards cautioning drivers about the tyre killers have been strategically placed, reading, “Do not drive on the wrong side, tyre killer ahead.”
The pilot project aims to instill discipline among road users, and upon success, tyre killers will be installed on all one-way roads across the city. Sourced from Delhi, the tyre killer system is being permanently installed this time after past technical issues. The tender for these tyre killers amounted to approximately 13.5 lakhs.
With positive outcomes in major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Dehradun, Raipur is taking a significant step toward ensuring road safety. Driving on the correct side prevents tyre damage from the spikes, allowing vehicles in the right direction to pass safely over the tyre killer. Approaching from the wrong side, however, results in tyre punctures, effectively preventing further movement.
