In a shocking turn of events, a truck driver from Bihar was caught red-handed just six hours after stealing his own challaned truck from traffic police custody in Raipur, highlighting a brazen attempt to evade a traffic fine.

The Heist from Police Yard
On March 31, 2026, traffic police at Bhampuri impounded truck CG/07/AZ/5831 for entering a no-entry zone, slapping it with charges under the Motor Vehicles Act. Instead of paying the penalty, driver W. Kumar Yadav sneaked back into the Bhampuri traffic station yard on April 2 and drove off with the vehicle. Khmatrai police registered a case (No. 194/26) under Section 303(2) BNS against an unknown thief, kicking off a high-stakes chase.
Swift Police Crackdown
Deputy Commissioner (North Zone) Mayank Gurjar took the breach seriously, directing Additional DCP Akash Markam, ACP Urla Purnima Lama, and Khmatrai SHO to nab the culprit fast. Inspecting the scene and scanning nearby CCTV footage, the team spotted the truck heading towards Rajnandgaon. In a lightning operation, they arrested Yadav in Dongargarh with the truckโvalued at โน15 lakhโstill in his possession.
Confession and Arrest Details
During intense grilling, the 21-year-old from Harna village, Jaja police station, Jamui district, Bihar (son of Kamdev Yadav), admitted he orchestrated the theft to skip the fine. Police seized the truck and slapped charges, praising the rapid response as a win for vigilance. This incident exposes vulnerabilities in vehicle impoundment security, prompting calls for tighter protocols at traffic stations.
