A fierce gun battle is currently underway between the elite Greyhounds force and Naxals in Maredpally, located on the border of Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. Initial reports suggest that three senior Naxal cadres, including Central Committee member Gajjrala Ravi and Aruna, have been killed in the encounter. Gajjrala Ravi carried a reward of ₹40 lakh on his head. The operation is ongoing and falls within Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitarama Raju district.
Aruna, also killed in the encounter, was a Special Zonal Committee Member (SZCM) and the wife of top Naxal leader Chalapathi. She had a bounty of ₹20 lakh. Superintendent of Police of Alluri Sitarama Raju district, Amit Bardar, has confirmed the encounter.
On February 10, 2012, Gajjrala Ravi, along with his associates, ambushed a BSF team, killing three personnel, including a commandant, and looted their weapons. He had been absconding since 2014 and was active in Chhattisgarh.
Aruna was the wife of Chalapathi, a top Naxal leader who carries a reward of ₹1 crore on his head.
Just 13 days ago, Central Committee member Sudhakar alias Nar Singhachalam, a wanted Naxal in Telangana, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra, was killed in an encounter in Bijapur’s National Park area. He too carried a ₹1 crore bounty.
Twelve days ago, security forces also gunned down Bhaskar (45), a Naxal carrying a ₹45 lakh reward, in an encounter in the Indravati National Park area of Bijapur district. Automatic weapons were recovered along with his body.
