Three-day National Sports Day celebrations to feature diverse programmes; International players to interact with state athletes at seminar

On the occasion of National Sports Day (August 29, 2025), the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare will organize a series of events for athletes at Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium, Raipur. The three-day celebration will be held to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
In line with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, the celebrations will take place from August 29 to 31, 2025, under the theme “One Hour in the Playground.”
On August 29, the inaugural programme will be graced by the presence of Arun Sao, Deputy Chief Minister (Sports & Youth Welfare Department) as Chief Guest, while Brijmohan Agrawal, Member of Parliament, Raipur Lok Sabha, will preside over the event. The occasion will also witness the presence of state ministers, MLAs, and public representatives. Nearly 2,000 participants, including players from residential and non-residential sports academies, students from schools and colleges, and members of sports associations, are expected to take part.
On the first day, August 29, renowned IPL cricketer Shashank Singh, international badminton player Shreyansh Jaiswal, international footballer Kiran Pisda, and international hockey player Mrinal Chaubey will directly interact with athletes and share their experiences. In addition, seminars will be held on Sports Injuries and Mental Health Awareness, Career Guidance for Athletes, and Nutrition Awareness, where sports experts will provide valuable insights.
On the second day, August 30, a goodwill football match will be organized at Swami Vivekanand Stadium, Kota Raipur, between the Residential Girls’ Football Academy team of the Sports Department and the Football Association team. The event aims to encourage people to incorporate at least one sport into their daily routine.
On the concluding day, August 31, a massive “Fit India Sunday on Cycle” rally will be organized at Durg district headquarters in collaboration with the State Cycling Association. The rally will promote cycling as an integral part of a healthy lifestyle.
As per the Government of India’s guidelines, district-level programmes will also be held across all 33 districts of Chhattisgarh. On August 29, various sporting events and district-level programmes will be organized; on August 30, seminars, debates, and indoor games will be conducted; and on August 31, all districts will hold cycle rallies under the Fit India Movement.
