The Minister of Commercial Taxes, T.S. Singhdeo, issued directives for prompt action on outstanding GST collection cases.

Raipur. Commercial Taxes Minister T.S. Singhdeo visited the Commercial Tax Office in Civil Lines today to review departmental work. He expressed satisfaction with the department’s work on GST collection in the state and said that, we are on track to meet the tax collection target this year. He stated that tax collection is linked to the state’s development. Therefore, according to the target, collect it according to the provisions of the GST Act.


In the meeting, T S Singhdeo instructed the officials to take quick action on the pending cases of GST collection. He requested that action be taken against those who do not deposit GST by the rules. In the meeting, he also reviewed the progress of return filing, recovery of pending taxes, sector-wise revenue recovery, tax assessment under the GST Act, and interest recovery proceedings in cases of delay and audit. The Special Secretary of the Commercial Tax Department, Himshikhar Gupta, Commissioner Bhim Singh, and Special Commissioner T.L. Dhruv, also attended the review meeting.

Bhim Singh, Commissioner of the Commercial Tax Department, informed the meeting that a revised tax collection target of Rs 18,500 crore has been set for the current fiscal year 2022-23. Tax collection totalled Rs 12 thousand 580 crores in the current fiscal year, which is 68% of the total target. This is roughly 25% more than the state’s revenue during the same period last year. This year, there was a 26% increase in GST and a 22% increase in VAT. So far this year, Rs 8241 crore has been received as GST, and Rs 4339 crore has been received as VAT. Between April 2021 and December 2021, a total tax collection of Rs 10,000 092 crores was made against a target of Rs 15,000 crores.

According to information presented at the meeting, the state’s diesel and gasoline consumption increased by 2 lakh, 30 thousand and 53 thousand kiloliters, respectively, compared to last year. Consequently, the tax received from them has also increased by Rs 791 crore (roughly $14 lakh). The state earned Rs 3546 crore and 90 lakhs from the sale of petrol and diesel between April 2021 and December 2021, which has increased to Rs 4338 crore and four lakhs this year. In the review meeting, the Additional Commissioner of the Commercial Taxes Department, T.R. Dhurve, and H.L. Officers from all divisions and circles, including HIDCO and Neelima Tigga, were present.
