Sukma DSP stabbed in Dantewada, two arrested

Raipur

A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) posted in Sukma district was seriously injured after a man and a woman attacked him with a knife in Dantewada. The officer, Tomesh Verma, sustained deep wounds to his head and neck during the assault.

The incident occurred within the City Kotwali police station limits when DSP Verma was in Dantewada for official work. According to police, the accused, identified as Ramashankar Sahu and Rajnisha Verma, followed the officer from Sukma to Dantewada. They are residents of Durg district.

Medical authorities at the Dantewada District Hospital, where the officer is currently undergoing treatment, stated that his condition is stable and he is out of danger.

Dantewada Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) RK Burman confirmed that the police have arrested both the accused. Preliminary investigations suggest the attack was motivated by a personal grudge.

Reports indicate that a legal case involving the two accused and Tomesh Verma was previously pending in a Durg district court. The court had acquitted the parties in September 2025. This past legal dispute is believed to be the reason behind the attack.

ASP Burman said the police are interrogating the man and the woman to gather more details. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
