SP Mohit Garg to be awarded President Police Medal for Gallantry

Mohit Garg, the Superintendent of Police (SP), Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh will be honoured with the President’s Police Gallantry Medal. He was commended for his role in an encounter with Naxalites in the Bijapur district in 2019, where 10 Naxals were eliminated. The award will be presented by the Governor on January 26. During his tenure as the Police Chief in Bijapur, a joint operation was launched in the jungles of Bodga under his leadership, involving the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF).
On February 7, 2019, a confrontation occurred near Bodega Nala between the police and Maoists, resulting in the death of 10 Maoists, including 5 men and 5 women, during an encounter. The police also successfully recovered 11 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and country-made guns used for explosive purposes.
It is noteworthy that Mohit Garg, the SP, received the President’s Police Gallantry Medal in 2019 for his bravery in the encounter. He is an IPS officer from the 2013 batch of the Chhattisgarh cadre and originally hails from Delhi. After completing his engineering studies, he pursued an M.B.A. from IIM Ahmedabad. Before joining the IPS, he worked in the IT sector for about a year. Currently, Mohit Garg is serving as the Police Chief in Rajnandgaon.
Prior to his current position, he held various posts including ASP Bilaspur, Additional SP Bijapur, and as the Police Chief in districts like Gariyaband, Bijapur, Narayanpur, Kabirdham, Balrampur. He has also served in various capacities in the Chhattisgarh Armed Force’s 14th Battalion Dhanora Balod, 19th Battalion Jagdalpur, and 16th Battalion Chasbal Narayanpur. SP Rajnandgaon Mohit Garg is the first IPS officer in Chhattisgarh to receive the President’s Police Gallantry Medal three times.
