Shah reviews anti-Naxal operations in Raipur, sets March 31 deadline

Raipur

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday chaired a high-level security review meeting in Raipur to assess the progress of anti-Naxal operations. During the session, he asserted that Left Wing Extremism (LWE) will be completely eradicated from the country before 31 March 2026.

Amit Shah, who is on a three-day visit to Chhattisgarh, held discussions at a city hotel with Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and central paramilitary forces.

The first session of the meeting focused on reviewing intelligence inputs and the progress of development projects in LWE-affected regions. Sharing details of the meeting on X, the Home Minister noted that the government’s security-centric strategy, infrastructure development, and crackdown on Naxal financial networks have yielded positive results.

“The surrender policy and targeted operations have weakened the Naxal network significantly. Chhattisgarh, once a stronghold of violence, is now synonymous with development under the double-engine government,” Shah stated.

He added that the youth in these regions are increasingly participating in technical education and sports, while preserving their cultural traditions.

The meeting is being viewed as the final major strategic review before the March 2026 deadline. Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma said the discussions would determine the large-scale strategy for the coming months. With 51 days remaining for the current fiscal phase, security agencies are expected to intensify operations in the Bastar region and other sensitive zones.

The high-level meeting was attended by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, Union Home Secretary, Director of Intelligence Bureau, DGs of CRPF, BSF, ITBP, and NIA, and Police Chiefs from Odisha, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Telangana.

Following the security review, the Home Minister is scheduled to travel to Jagdalpur on Monday to attend the closing ceremony of Bastar Pandum Mahotsav 2026. This follows his previous visits to the state, including the 60th DGP-IGP Conference (November 2025), where the roadmap for a “Surakshit Bharat” was initially outlined.
