Security forces on Thursday averted a major tragedy by recovering two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing 10 kg each in the Maoist-affected Bijapur district. The explosives were detected on the Ilmidi-Mulajkanker road during a demining operation.
A joint team comprising personnel from the Ilmidi police station, the 9/D company of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF), and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was conducting area domination and demining exercises in the region. During the search operation, the team spotted the IEDs planted in series in the middle of the road.
The BDS team safely neutralised the explosives on the spot. Police officials stated that the IEDs were planted by Maoists to target security personnel.
“The alertness and quick action of our forces have foiled a major conspiracy by the Maoists,” a senior police official said.
Search operations and area domination exercises are continuing in the region to ensure peace and public safety.
