Security forces recover huge cache of Maoist dump in Sukma

Security forces have recovered a large cache of weapons, explosives and other material from a Maoist dump in the Camp Mettaguda area of Sukma district, Chhattisgarh.

According to Sukma superintendent of police (SP) Kiran Chavan, following intelligence on the presence of Maoists, a joint team of the 203 CoBRA Battalion, 241 Bastar Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and District Force launched an anti-Maoist operation on Saturday. The team, led by commandant Pawan Kumar Singh of 203 CoBRA Battalion and deputy commandant Praveen Kumar of the 203 CoBRA Battalion, went towards the forests and hills of Botelanka, Irapalli, Koimenta, Dareli, and Markanguda villages.

At around 11 am on August 23, during the search operation, the security personnel found a large dump of Maoist material hidden in the forests of Koimenta. The Maoists had concealed the items with the intention of causing significant harm to security forces.

The recovered items include:

  • One country-made rifle
  • One BGL launcher and one BGL launcher barrel
  • One broken UAV Netra propeller
  • One electric holder welding tool
  • One bench vice
  • Two steel pipes and seven iron rods
  • 45 iron base plates (approx. 2 kg each)
  • 47 pole anglers (approx. 8 kg each)
  • 480 iron clamps (approx. 1 kg each)
  • 35 ground supporters (approx. 2 kg each)
  • 31 iron clamps (18-inch)
  • 9 iron clamps (12-inch)
  • One T-type iron clamp (12-inch)
  • One black uniform
  • One ammunition pouch
  • One broken inverter battery casing
  • Approximately 20 metres of electric wire
  • One electrical extension board

After the successful recovery, the teams safely returned to their camp. A senior official said that the operation was part of the ongoing anti-Maoist campaign in Sukma district.
