Raipur
A recent incident involving a foreign woman causing a disturbance on Raipur’s VIP road has revealed connections to an international sex racket. The woman and her lawyer friend are currently in police custody. The woman requested boiled chicken during her custody, which was provided to her.
On the night of February 6, around 12:30 AM, a car driven by the Russian woman collided with a scooter carrying three youths on VIP Road. The collision resulted in serious injuries to all three youths, with one succumbing to his injuries. Following the accident, locals surrounded the car. The car had an additional plate over the number plate with “Government of India” written on it. Nora and a man, who is also a government lawyer, were in the car.
The police arrived at the scene and tried to take the two individuals to the police station. However, the woman demanded her phone back, accusing a police officer of taking it. The situation escalated due to the absence of a female constable. The woman, seemingly intoxicated, refused to leave without her phone. After about 45 minutes of commotion, both the woman and the lawyer were forcibly taken to the police station. They were presented in court and subsequently remanded to police custody for three days.
According to police sources, woman’s father passed away when she was 8 years old, and her mother when she was 14. She has two brothers, one working in Uzbekistan and the other imprisoned there for murder. The woman is a mother to a 4-year-old child, who she left with her grandmother before coming to India. She reportedly told the police that she joined the sex trade due to financial constraints.
Investigations revealed that the woman arrived in Mumbai on a tourist visa from Uzbekistan on January 20. She reached Raipur on January 30 and met the lawyer for the first time on January 31 through a pimp. They stayed together at a hotel on VIP Road. On the day of the accident, the lawyer met the woman again at the hotel. Police found evidence of two transactions of Rs 27,000 each from the lawyer’s bank account.
The police also identified woman’s friend who was staying at another hotel on VIP Road. Her friend, who was taken into custody , revealed that the woman involved in the accident was brought to Raipur from Uzbekistan on special demand. Both the woman are suspected to be involved in prostitution.
Investigations suggest that the pimps paid the Russian women between Rs 7,000 and Rs 9,000 per day, while charging customers between Rs 25,000 and Rs 40,000. The pimps also covered the women’s travel and accommodation expenses.
The police have arrested a taxi driver who acted as a bridge between the foreign women and their customers. FIRs have been filed against the two foreign women and the pimp under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. The police are currently searching for the pimp.
The hotel where the woman stayed failed to fill out the C-form, which is a mandatory document for hotels to collect basic information about foreign tourists.
