Rs 6,896 Crore for development of railway infrastructure in Chhattisgarh as Union Finance Minister presents interim budget

As Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman pesented the interim budget on Thursday, Chhattisgarh’s railway development is set to receive an allocation of Rs 6,896 crore from the budget. Today, after presenting the interim budget, the Finance Minister addressed journalists via video conferencing, where Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnav announced that the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has allocated Rs 6,896 crore for the development of railways in Chhattisgarh. This amount will be spent on three major economic railway corridors, including the energy, mineral, and cement corridor, port connectivity corridor, and high-density traffic corridor. The Railway Minister stated that during the government of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), Chhattisgarh had only received a meager sum of Rs 311 crore between 2009 and 2014. At that time, only 6 kilometers of railway lines were laid, but now Chhattisgarh witnesses the laying of approximately 162 kilometers (on average) of railway lines. He mentioned that in the coming years, an investment of Rs 36,968 crore is proposed for railway development in Chhattisgarh. He also highlighted the redevelopment of 32 railway stations under the Amrit Railway Station Mission. Identification of projects under the Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti has been done to enable multimodal connectivity. To ensure the safety, convenience, and comfort of passengers, 40,000 conventional railway coaches will be transformed into Vande Bharat standards.
