Relief in Disproportionate Assets Case to Soumya Chaurasia from Raipur Special Court
Raipur
Suspended Chhattisgarh state service officer Soumya Chaurasia has been granted bail. However, her release from jail remains unlikely as she faces charges in other cases. For now, she has been granted relief in the disproportionate assets case.
It is reported that in the disproportionate assets case, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) failed to submit a charge sheet to the court within 60 days. Consequently, Soumya was granted bail by the ACB-EOW Special Court. The ACB has also filed a case against her in connection with the coal levy scam.
Soumya’s counsel, Faizal Rizvi, stated that a bail application was filed on January 7. The charges against Soumya involve provisions that carry a punishment ranging from four to ten years of imprisonment. In such cases, a charge sheet must be filed within 60 days.
The ACB failed to file the charge sheet within this period, and Tuesday marked the 61st day. During the bail hearing, arguments were presented by both sides at the Special Court in Raipur. Following this, the court granted bail to Saumya.
