Rashmi Drolia joins study in US
on global human trafficking




Raipur, 4 February. Rashmi Drolia, a Journalist with The Times of India is selected by the U.S. Government for a 3 week ‘International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP)’ to study Human Trafficking. Among 25 participants from 25 countries, she is the only one from India, and the only journalist in the group.

She has joined the Program in Washington DC today, and will visit 7 cities in 6 different states of the US. Other participants selected for the program are social activists, lawyers, investigating officers, judicial officers, who are working on Human Trafficking related issues in their own countries.

IVLP is an important program of The US govt, and in the past many prominent Indians, including Indira Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and Narendra Modi had attended it.

This year’s subject involves human trafficking within a country or across borders, as bonded labourers or sex slaves. India also suffers several aspects of it, and it is also a signatory to various international protocols to deal with the problem.

The Government of the United States is dealing with its domestic problem, as well as problems spread over other countries.

Rashmi is Currently working with The Times Of India, Raipur in Chhattisgarh as Special Correspondent. Her selection is based on her significant journalistic work on Human Trafficking. In her more than a decade long journalism career, she has received many awards, honors, and prizes for her work.
