In a unique and first of its kind initiative, Ramkrishna CARE Hospitals will make one lakh people aware about hernia. For this, experts will conduct camps in all districts of Chhattisgarh, the needy will get the facility of free surgery, said Dr Sandeep Dave of the hospital.

“A campaign to make the people of Chhattisgarh aware of hernia disease will soon be launched. A team of doctors will reach around one lakh people and they will be informed about this disease and its preventions,” said Dr Dave on Friday. It has been seen that many times people do not understand what has happened to them and by the time they understand the things, it is too delay, making treatment difficult. “This is the reason why we are starting an awareness campaign,” said Dr Dave.

He said that this campaign will start immediately after Diwali. In the first phase, expert doctors will camp in every district of the state. During this, free check-up will be done. Patients will be able to get themselves examined in these camps. If necessary, surgery will be done. On November 26, the surgery will be done at the Raipur center itself. The people who are in need in these surgeries will be given the facility of minimal cost or free surgery under government schemes. This campaign will run for 60 days, he said.

Explaining the disease Hernia, Dr Dave said human beings have many diseases and problems due to weak muscles, hernia is also one of them. When a muscle or tissue is pierced and the organ/part inside it comes out, then it is called hernia disease in medical language. In most cases it is seen in the abdomen, but it can also occur in the upper part of the thigh, around the navel and waist. In most cases, hernias are not fatal, but the only treatment for hernias is surgery.

Throwing lights on the causes of hernia, Dr Dave said aging, getting hurt, being pregnant, being obese, smoking, being overweight, chronic cough, having PCOD, genetic reasons, chronic constipation, heavy exercise, lifting heavy weights, having multiple pregnancies, having cystic fibroids, low baby weight during birth, abdominal fluid accumulation, any complications during surgery can cause hernia, he said.
