Rajat Bansal will be new Chhattisgarh PR Commissioner

Rajat Bansal, a 2012-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, will be the new Commissioner of Public Relations and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ‘Samvad’ in Chhattisgarh. The appointment follows the transfer of Dr Ravi Mittal to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Born on 25 July 1988, Bansal hails from Haryana. He comes from a family with a background in civil services, as his father served in the Indian Forest Service (IFS).
Bansal completed his schooling at La Martiniere College, Lucknow, and Delhi Public School, RK Puram. He was a school topper in his Class 10 board examinations. He later earned a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Computer Science from BITS Pilani. During his undergraduate studies, he participated in a specialised training programme in France on a scholarship.
Before joining the civil services, Bansal worked in the corporate sector. Between 2009 and 2011, he served as a Junior Research Associate at Infosys, Pune. He prepared for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations while maintaining his professional responsibilities, attending coaching classes twice a week.
In his first attempt at the UPSC Civil Services Examination, Bansal secured the 168th rank and was selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS). He was allotted the West Bengal cadre and underwent nine months of police training. He appeared for the examination again and secured the 85th rank, leading to his induction into the IAS.
Bansal formally joined the IAS on 3 September 2012. Since then, he has served in several key administrative positions across Chhattisgarh.
