Raipur Sub-Inspector Convicted in Land Mutation Bribery Case: 4 Years Rigorous Imprisonment, ₹5,000 Fine

Raipur, January 28, 2026:
In a strong message against corruption, the Special Court under the Prevention of Corruption Act in Raipur district on Tuesday sentenced Sub-Inspector Rajendra Pratap Singh to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹5,000 in a land mutation bribery case.
The case originated from a complaint filed on July 17, 2020, by Pinky Sahu, a resident of Raipur, at the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Civil Lines. She alleged that in 2018, her husband Kishore Sahu had purchased land bearing Khasra No. 542/12, measuring 0.04 acres, from Foosarak Kumar, a resident of Bodripara, Raipur.
During the process of land mutation and jamabandi correction, Revenue Inspector Rajendra Pratap Singh allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹10,000. The complainant refused to pay the full amount and sought to trap the official red-handed.
After verification of the complaint, the accused reiterated that he would not accept even a rupee less than ₹10,000. On the second day of verification, when he arrived to reject the mutation, he again demanded the bribe. The complainant initially paid ₹2,000, assuring that the remaining ₹8,000 would be paid after completion of the mutation and jamabandi process.
A trap operation was conducted on August 7, 2020, at the on-site office under Laghu Pithora Police Station, Raipur district. The accused, Rajendra Pratap Singh, was caught red-handed while accepting ₹8,000 from the complainant.
Following a detailed investigation, a charge sheet was filed on June 22, 2021, in the Special Court under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Raipur. After examining the evidence and witness testimonies, the court held the accused guilty and pronounced the sentence.
This landmark verdict reinforces the government’s zero-tolerance policy against bribery, especially in revenue and land administration, a sector that directly impacts ordinary citizens.
