Raipur Police Bust Interstate Heroin Racket, Four Key Punjab-Based Suppliers Arrested

Raipur
In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Raipur Police have dismantled an interstate heroin supply network operating between Punjab and Chhattisgarh, arresting four key accused from Punjab. The operation was carried out under the joint supervision of the Deputy Commissioners of Police (West) and Cyber, involving a coordinated multi-unit action.

According to officials, the operation exposed a well-organised syndicate involved in supplying heroin, locally known as “chitta,” from Punjab to Raipur and nearby areas. The accused, who were absconding in multiple cases, were arrested along with contraband, an illegal firearm, and ammunition.

Operation and Investigation

Police stated that the crackdown was the result of a months-long sustained investigation into heroin trafficking in the city. During the probe, it was found that Punjab was the primary source of heroin entering Raipur.

Investigators adopted an end-to-end approach, tracing cases back to their origin instead of focusing only on local peddlers. Using technical surveillance, telecommunication analysis, and human intelligence, the police successfully mapped the entire supply chain—from local distributors to interstate carriers and finally to primary suppliers in Punjab.

Police teams later travelled to Punjab and executed targeted operations to arrest the accused.

Key Accused and Modus Operandi

The main accused, identified as a “tier-1 supplier,” was directly sourcing heroin from border-area networks in Punjab and supplying it further down the chain.

  • Two accused used courier services to transport heroin, hiding drugs in ordinary parcels to avoid detection.
  • Another accused relied on truck drivers engaged in regular goods transport between Punjab and Chhattisgarh, using legitimate cargo as a cover.

Police also revealed that the main accused had a criminal background, with previous cases under the NDPS Act and Arms Act, and had earlier been jailed. At the time of arrest, he was carrying an illegal Beretta pistol and live ammunition, indicating the armed nature of the syndicate.

Seizure

During the operation, police recovered:

  • 11.82 grams of heroin (chitta)
  • One illegal Beretta pistol
  • One live cartridge
  • Four mobile phones

Cases and Legal Action

The accused were wanted in multiple cases registered under the NDPS Act at police stations including Kabir Nagar, Amanaka, and DD Nagar in Raipur. Additional charges under the Arms Act have also been invoked against the main accused.

Significance of the Bust

Officials termed the operation a significant breakthrough, stating that it has disrupted a major heroin supply chain to Raipur and exposed the larger interstate drug network structure.

The findings are expected to help agencies target higher-level operators linked to the syndicate. Police reiterated their commitment to intensifying anti-narcotics operations and dismantling organised drug trafficking networks across state borders.
