Raipur jewellery trader robbed of 86 kg silver at gun-point; loot valued at ₹1.5 crore

Raipur – A jewellery trader from Uttar Pradesh was robbed of 86 kilograms of silver, valued at approximately ₹1.5 crore, at gun-point in his rented flat in Raipur on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred around 4 am in the capital’s City Kotwali police station area. The victim, identified as Rahul Goyal, a jeweller originally from Agra, UP, was reportedly tied up and rendered unconscious by the robbers before they fled with the stolen goods. The robbers also took the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) of the CCTV cameras.
According to the police, two masked robbers arrived at Rajdhani Palace, located behind the Jain Temple in Sadar Bazar, where Goyal was residing in a rented flat. When Goyal answered the door, the robbers immediately pressed a gun to his temple.
The robbers then allegedly administered a drug to the trader, causing him to lose consciousness. They tied his hands and feet before stealing the silver jewellery kept inside the house.
Goyal regained consciousness around 11 am on Saturday and immediately informed the police. Preliminary information suggests the robbers had prior knowledge about the trader and the location of the jewellery.
Former President of the Sarafa Association, Harakh Malu, confirmed that Goyal is from Agra and sells jewellery in the Sadar Bazar area, staying in a rented flat locally. Malu stated that the daylight robbery at gun-point has created an environment of fear among jewellery traders.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Lakhan Patle, a police team reached the spot upon receiving the information. The trader’s hands and feet were found tied. The criminals escaped with about 86 kg of silver ornaments from the flat, according to the police. Police were examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and the investigation is ongoing.
