The accused, identified as Baghel Singh (37), a resident of Tarn Taran in Punjab, was apprehended by the Amanaka police station team. Police are currently interrogating him and searching for other individuals connected to this drug network.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team rushed to the road leading to Sarona Railway Station, opposite JP Garden. The police were informed that a person was standing there with heroin, waiting for a customer. The police team quickly set up a cordon and caught the youth.
During the search, the police recovered a white plastic wrapper containing 51.85 grams of heroin from the bag the accused was carrying. The seized substance is valued at around Rs 5.18 lakh in the market.
Police also confiscated a mobile phone from Baghel Singh. The device is being examined to trace the forward and backward linkages of the network. The accused could not produce any valid documents or license for possessing or selling the narcotics.
The Amanaka police have registered a case against Baghel Singh under Section 21(B) of the NDPS Act. The seized heroin was sealed on the spot. Police officials stated that the accused brought the heroin from Punjab for sale in Raipur.
Drug Supply Route Revealed
Raipur Police have arrested more than 550 persons involved in drug peddling since January 2025. These accused were caught either selling or transporting substances like ganja, MDMA, LSD, OG (foreign-origin ganja), heroin, narcotic pills, opium, and cough syrups in the city.
Police investigation revealed that the accused procure ganja from Odisha and various types of synthetic drugs from Maharashtra, Delhi, and the Punjab-Haryana belt. They sell these drugs in Raipur and other districts of Chhattisgarh. Narcotic materials are also supplied to other states through this network.
Further probe by the police has previously established that drugs are often sold using code words at private parties held in hotels, pubs, and farmhouses in Raipur.
