Prof. Virendra Kumar Saraswat Appointed Vice-Chancellor of Pt. Sundarlal Sharma Open University

RaipurProfessor Virendra Kumar Saraswat has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Pt. Sundarlal Sharma Open University, BilaspurChhattisgarh’s only state-run open university. The official appointment order was issued by the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.

Prof. Saraswat said that he has not yet been relieved from Agra University. Once officially relieved, he will soon take charge as the Vice-Chancellor of Pt. Sundarlal Sharma Open University.

Currently, Prof. Saraswat is serving as a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra, Uttar Pradesh. His appointment has been made by Chhattisgarh Governor and Chancellor Ramesh Deka under the powers vested in him by the Pt. Sundarlal Sharma Open University Act, 2004 (as amended in 2006, 2010, and 2019). His terms of service, entitlements, and conditions will be governed by the provisions laid out in the University Act and regulations.

Prof. Saraswat has 30 years of teaching experience. He was born on July 5, 1967. Prior to his current position at Agra University, he served as Director of the University Engineering Institute. He has also held positions as Director of the University Equation Center and Chairman of the All India Board of Information Technology Education for three years.

He has undertaken academic visits to several countries, including the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, and King’s College in the UK, as well as institutions in Thailand and Indonesia.

He is a life member of several prestigious professional bodies, including the Indian Science Congress, the Operational Research Society of India, the Computer Society of India, the Institution of Engineers, and the Indian Society for Technical Education.
