Pawan Kheda mocks PM Modi, highlights Manmohan Singh’s economic legacy

Raipur
Senior Congress leader Pawan Kheda took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, playfully referring to him as an economist during a recent event. Drawing a comparison with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, also an economist from the Congress party, Kheda suggested that during Singh’s tenure, the country experienced robust economic growth, including the forgiveness of farmers’ loans and a stable GDP. He implied that Singh’s expertise in economics kept the country financially sound. However, Kheda remarked that the current leadership lacks economic competence, highlighting a distinction between economists and those lacking in economic understanding. He was addressing a press conference at Congress Bhawan in Raipur on Wednesday.
In a lighter vein, Kheda humorously mentioned his travel plans to Raipur, expressing concerns about potential delays if he were to rely on trains. He then shifted his focus to criticize the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of downplaying critical issues such as unemployment, agrarian distress, reservations, and women’s safety, while diverting attention to inconsequential matters like dietary preferences and religious affiliations.
Kheda further questioned the BJP’s insistence on securing a parliamentary majority exceeding 400 seats, insinuating hidden agendas behind such demands. He underscored the significance of the number 400 in the context of amending the constitution and criticized the BJP’s intentions to pursue such changes.
Expressing apprehension over the BJP’s desire to amend the constitution, Kheda raised concerns about the silence of BJP leaders on this matter. He accused the ruling party of neglecting pressing issues and instead focusing on trivial matters. Additionally, Kheda criticized the BJP’s handling of challenges like Naxalism, contrasting it with the Congress party’s past success in managing similar situations effectively.
Overall, Kheda’s remarks primarily targeted the BJP’s governance and policies while highlighting the Congress party’s achievements in addressing significant issues like Naxalism and maintaining economic stability.
