Nayab Tehsildar held for graft in Bilaspur

Raipur
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Bilaspur, arrested a Nayab Tehsildar on Monday for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000. Desh Kumar Kurre, the Nayab Tehsildar of Sipat, was caught red-handed while taking the first instalment of a total agreed-upon bribe amount.

The arrest follows a complaint filed with the ACB by Praveen Patanwar, a resident of Bitkula village in Sipat Tehsil, Bilaspur district. Patanwar alleged that his mother had passed away, leaving approximately 21 acres of agricultural land in Bitkula. Patanwar approached Kurre to get the land records updated to register the names of his siblings and himself as legal heirs.

Kurre allegedly demanded ₹1.5 lakh from Patanwar to complete the official procedure. Since Patanwar did not wish to pay the bribe, he approached the ACB. During the verification of the complaint, Kurre agreed to reduce the bribe amount to ₹1.20 lakh.

The ACB arranged a trap on 10 November 2025 and apprehended Nayab Tehsildar Desh Kumar Kurre while he accepted ₹50,000 as the first tranche of the bribe from the complainant.

The ACB has registered a case and is conducting further proceedings against the accused under the provisions of Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended by the Amendment Act of 2018).
