One arrested for alleged gang-rape at Raipur farmhouse

Raipur:
Police have arrested one man and are searching for another in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 25-year-old married woman at a farmhouse in the Dharsiwa area of Raipur district.

The incident reportedly took place at a farmhouse in Kundra village, which falls under the Dharsiwa police station limits. The woman, a mother of two who resides in Raipur and is originally from Mahasamund district, had approached the police to file a complaint.

According to the police, the victim had broken up with her boyfriend. Two men — Ashish Joshi and Rupendra Sahu — allegedly lured her to the farmhouse on 27 October under the pretext of patching her up with her former boyfriend on the occasion of his birthday party.

At the farmhouse, the accused allegedly mixed alcohol into a cold drink and gave it to the woman. After she fell unconscious, the men allegedly gang-raped her. Following the assault, the accused threatened to kill her if she informed anyone about the crime. They then dropped the woman back at her residence.

The victim was initially fearful, but later gathered the courage to file a complaint with the police about a week after the incident.

Police information states that accused Ashish Joshi, a resident of Shyam Nagar, Telibandha, works at a medical shop. The second accused, Rupendra Sahu, a resident of Kapsada village, Dharsiwa, runs a general store (kirana bhandar).

The police have arrested Ashish Joshi, while Rupendra Sahu is currently absconding, and police teams are searching for him.
