Notorious ‘Tomar Brothers’ on the Run: Raipur Court Issues Arrest Warrant, Property Seizure Next

Raipur
A local court in Raipur has issued an arrest warrant against Rohit Singh Tomar and Virendra Singh Tomar, also known as the “Tomar Brothers.” Police are now preparing to attach their properties. The brothers have been absconding for over a month, despite police teams being dispatched to several states to trace them.

The action follows a First Information Report (FIR) registered two days ago by Purani Basti police based on a complaint from businessman Gajanan Singh. The FIR names Rohit Tomar, Divyansh Tomar, Akash Mishra, and Yogesh Sinha for alleged illegal recovery, threatening, and violations under the Chhattisgarh Protection of Debtors Act. This recent complaint adds to approximately half a dozen other FIRs filed against the brothers by various individuals.

The Tomar brothers, who are history-sheeters, had instilled such fear among their victims and their accomplices that many were hesitant to file complaints while the accused were in the city. Since the police initiated action against Virendra and Rohit, more victims have come forward.

Previously, a resident of Narayanpur district had lodged a complaint at Old Basti police station against Rohit Tomar. The complainant stated that he had borrowed ₹10 lakh but ended up paying ₹1.10 crore, including interest.

Rajesh Dewangan, City Superintendent of Police (CSP), Old Basti, who is investigating the cases against the Tomar brothers, confirmed that six cases have been registered so far. He stated that efforts are underway to locate Virendra Tomar and Rohit Tomar, who are currently absconding. The police have also appealed to the court to cancel their bail.

A year ago, following the Hyper Club shooting in Raipur, police had paraded Rohit Tomar, Vikas Agrawal, Sarang Mandhan, and Amit Taneja after partially shaving their heads. The accused were also paraded with torn clothes.

Rohit Tomar is listed as a “Nigrani Gunda Badmash” (monitored notorious criminal). He faces over nine cases in various police stations, including Rajendra Nagar, Telibandha, Old Basti, Kotwali, and Gudhiyari. His alleged crimes include usury, assault, and blackmail, for which he has previously been jailed. Rohit, known as the “Golden Man” in the district, is often seen at public events with his gang to maintain his influential image.

In a related incident, call recordings have surfaced where Rohit Tomar allegedly threatened a Raipur-based hotelier, Gajanan Singh, for delayed payments. In the recordings, Tomar purportedly threatened to kill the businessman’s parents and used abusive language. The incident reportedly occurred in the Bhanpuri-Khamtarai area.
