Nigerian student dies after falling from fourth floor of Raipur university; two arrested

Raipur

A student from Nigeria died after allegedly falling from the fourth floor of a building at Kalinga University in Nava Raipur, under the Mandir Hasaud police station area, on Tuesday. Police have arrested two foreign students in connection with the incident, while two others surrendered in Bhilai.

The deceased has been identified as a second-year MBA student. Preliminary reports suggest that the incident followed a heated argument over the alleged harassment of a female student.

According to police sources, the dispute escalated when the female student’s boyfriend arrived at the scene. It is alleged that the two pushed the Nigerian student from the fourth floor of the building. He sustained multiple injuries in the fall and was declared dead by the time authorities reached the spot.

Raipur police have arrested a foreign student from South Sudan and his girlfriend. Two other suspects linked to the case later surrendered before the police in Bhilai, and a team from Raipur has been dispatched to take them into custody.

Mandir Hasaud police said that while preliminary findings indicate death due to a fall from height, they are investigating whether the incident was accidental or a case of murder.

“We are recording statements of other students and examining CCTV footage from the premises. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report,” police said. The body has been sent for autopsy.

The university administration has not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
