MP Tokhan Sahu from Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur Lok Sabha seat joins PM Narendra Modi’s Cabinet

Tokhan Sahu, the Member of Parliament from Bilaspur Lok Sabha seat in Chhattisgarh, has been included in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet. Sahu received a call from the PMO before the oath-taking ceremony and then proceeded to the Prime Minister’s residence.
Tokhan Sahu hails from a humble farming family. In 2013, he was elected as an MLA from the Lormi Assembly seat for the first time. During Raman Singh’s government, he was appointed as a parliamentary secretary. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Tokhan Sahu achieved a significant victory by defeating Congress candidate Devendra Yadav with a margin of over 164,000 votes.
The BJP nominated the former Lormi MLA for the Bilaspur Lok Sabha seat, leading to his historic win. Sahu’s political journey began in 1994 as a Panch in the small village of Surajpura in Lormi. Known as a popular public representative, he has made significant strides in his political career.
Political Career Milestones:
1994: Began his political career as an uncontested Panch of Surajpura village in Lormi Block.
2005: Became a Janpad member from Block Lormi Area Number 18, Phulwarikala.
2010: Due to women’s reservation, his wife Leelavati Sahu became a Janpad member and later the president of Lormi Janpad Panchayat.
2012: Became a representative of the District Cooperative Bank Bilaspur, patron of the District Sahu Society, and General Secretary of the BJP West Mandal.
2013: Elected as MLA from Lormi Assembly on a BJP ticket, defeating Congress candidate and sitting MLA Dharamjeet Singh.
2014: Appointed as a member of the Chhattisgarh Wildlife Board.
2015: Became Parliamentary Secretary for the Departments of Agriculture, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Water Resources.
2015: Appointed as a member of Khairagarh Music University.
2018: Contested again from Lormi Assembly but lost to Dharamjeet Singh. Subsequently, he was made a member of the State Working Committee of the State Backward Class Front and later of the State Farmers’ Front.
2023: Served as the in-charge of Nawagarh Assembly in Bemetara district during the Assembly elections. Currently, he is the President of the State BJP Farmers’ Front.
