Minor girl pushes cousins into well over ‘thief’ taunt

Police in Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai (KCG) district of Chhattisgarh cracked a sensational double murder case within hours, arresting a minor girl for allegedly pushing her two young cousins into a well over a minor squabble. The horrific incident occurred in Jhooranadi village, under the Chhuikhadan police station area.
The deceased were a two-year-old girl and her four-year-old brother. Their bodies were recovered from a well in the village.
According to the police, the children’s father filed a report after his children went missing. He Verma reported that his relative informed him in the field that his two children were not traceable. The complainant immediately returned home with his wife and other villagers and began a search operation.
During the search, villagers reported seeing a child inside a well in a villager’s backyard. On reaching the spot, they found a body floating in the water. Villagers immediately retrieved the body and confirmed the two-year-old’s death.
Fearing that the boy might also be in the well, and due to the high water level, the villagers arranged a motor pump to drain the water. They recovered the boy’s body soon after. The police registered a case against an unknown person under relevant sections following the report.
During questioning, the minor girl confessed to the crime. She told the police that her male cousin repeatedly called her a “chotti” (thief/little thief), which enraged her. In a fit of anger, she pushed both the brother and sister into the backyard well, leading to their death.
The police acted swiftly and sent the minor girl to a remand home. The police team’s promptness ensured the sensitive and heinous murder was solved within 12 hours.
