Mediation and arbitration services introduced in Chhattisgarh with inauguration of CGIAM

For the first time, an institute for arbitration has been established in Chhattisgarh. Named the Chhattisgarh Institute of Arbitration and Mediation (CGIAM), this institute will offer mediation and arbitration services, with a panel selected according to public preference. Disputes related to spouses, siblings, and family matters will be resolved through mediation and arbitration.

Patron of the institute is Justce Kurian Joseph and it is opened by Advocate / mediator Hamida Siddiqui who is Director of the institute. Siddiqui told dispatch News that “It’s full fledged technicality equipped institute having facilities of video conferencing and smart board for training as well as cafeteria”.

“Additionally, the institute will provide 40 hours of training, conduct sensitization programs, offer internships to law students, and promote mediation as an effective community-level tool. Recognizing the backlog of cases in the courts” Hamida added.

This “institute will prove to be a boon and we are in full of hopes that institute will reach to the heights”. She said further.


The inauguration of the institute was conducted by Chhattisgarh High Court Judge, Justice Goutam Bhaduri, who is also the chairman of Legal Aid, in the presence of High Court Justices Rakesh Mohan Pandey and Deepak Kumar Tiwari.

Justice Bhaduri expressed hope that this institute, the first of its kind in Chhattisgarh, would help alleviate the burden on the courts. He emphasized the importance of seeking consultation before and after approaching the courts, stating that the center would provide valuable assistance to the parties involved.


A training program will be held from April 13 to 17, and interested individuals can contact the CGIAM office. Notably, CGIAM has employed a specially abled individual who is deaf and mute.
The inauguration event was attended by Additional SP Garima Dubey, BNI members Kiran Chawla, Apollo Hospital director Devendra Singh, CIMS director Archana Singh, Rotary president, Central University students,  sarpanchs of 25 villages, senior advocates, and people from Ambikapur and other parts of the state.
