Man with pistol, magazine arrested in Pandri; murder accused held

Raipur: Acting against illegal firearms, police arrested a 30-year-old man carrying a pistol and a magazine in the Pandri area on Sunday.

The accused, Nandu Sharma, a resident of Kushalpur Tiranga Chowk under Purani Basti police limits, has a criminal background and was earlier jailed in cases of murder and assault.

According to Pandri Police Station, the suspect was spotted near Bhikshuk Kendra in suspicious circumstances. During a search, police recovered a pistol and an empty magazine from his possession. He failed to produce any valid licence and allegedly tried to mislead investigators during questioning.

The action followed directions from DCP (North Zone) Mayank Gujjar to intensify surveillance against illegal arms. A team led by Additional DCP Akash Markam and ACP Purnima Lama intercepted the accused after a tip-off on 15 February 2026.

Police registered a case under Section 25 of the Arms Act (Crime No. 38/26). The accused is being interrogated to trace the source of the firearm.
