Man held with 1.075 kg opium in Raipur

Ahead of the New Year celebrations, a joint team of the Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit (ACCU) and D.D. Nagar Police arrested a 55-year-old man on Wednesday for allegedly carrying 1.075 kg of opium. The accused intended to sell the contraband at upcoming New Year parties in the city.
The arrest was made near Parthivi Province Road under D.D. Nagar Police Station limits. The police identified the accused as Dilbag Singh, a resident of Parthivi Province, Sarona.
Inspector General of Police (Raipur Range) Amresh Mishra and Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Lal Umed Singh have directed a special campaign, ‘Operation Nishchay’, to curb drug trafficking and substance abuse. Raipur Police officials and Station House Officers have been instructed to strengthen their intelligence network to track the illegal narcotics trade.
On 25 December 2025, the ACCU team received a tip-off regarding a man carrying prohibited substances near Parthivi Province. A joint team reached the spot and apprehended Singh based on the description provided by the informant.
During the search, the police recovered 1.075 kg of opium and a mobile phone. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 5.5 lakh. While the accused initially tried to mislead the investigators, he later confessed his plans to supply the drugs for New Year celebrations.
D.D. Nagar Police have registered a case against Dilbag Singh under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The operation involved D.D. Nagar SHO Inspector Ravindra Yadav, ACCU In-charge Inspector Sachin Singh, ASI Mangleshwar Singh Parihar, and other police personnel from both units.
