Lover arrested for murder of 21-year-old woman in Janjgir-Champa

Police have solved the murder case of a 21-year-old woman whose body was found in a field in Pipra village under Nawagarh police station limits. Officers arrested the accused, identified as the victim’s partner, from Patna police station area in Koriya district.
The victim, identified as Pooja Mahant, daughter of Vishambhar Das, went missing from her home at 4 am on Wednesday. Her body was later discovered partially clothed and covered in mud in the middle of a field, leading to panic in the locality.
Nawagarh police and a forensic team reached the spot immediately after being alerted by villagers. While family members initially expressed fears of sexual assault, police investigation revealed that the accused allegedly killed her by smothering her face into the mud.
“The accused was traced to Koriya district and taken into custody. Preliminary interrogation suggests a personal dispute led to the killing,” a police official said. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death and to investigate the allegations of sexual assault.
