Kawasi Lakhma may be sent to Raipur Jail
In the coming days, the court’s order may come, after which it will be clear whether former excise minister Kawasi Lakhma will be sent to jail or any other decision will be considered.

Former minister Kawasi Lakhma, who was on remand in the Chhattisgarh liquor scam case, was produced in the Special Court of Raipur on Tuesday.
The ED alleged that former minister and present MLA Kawasi Lakhma was an important part of the syndicate. The syndicate used to work under Lakhma’s instructions. They got help from this liquor syndicate. He also played a key role in changing the liquor policy, which led to the introduction of FL-10 licenses in Chhattisgarh. The ED claims that Lakhma was aware of the irregularities happening in the Excise Department, but he did nothing to stop it.

According to ED counsel Saurabh Pandey, the liquor scam ran for 3 years. Lakhma used to get Rs 2 crore every month. During this period, Lakhma got Rs 72 crore in 36 months. This amount was used for the construction of his son Harish Kawasi’s house and the construction of the Congress Bhavan Sukma.
The ED said that the government treasury suffered a huge loss due to the liquor scam in Chhattisgarh. More than Rs 2,100 crore of illegal earnings were filled in the pockets of the people of the liquor syndicate.
