Jagdalpur Mayor Safira Sahu Alleges Indecent Comment by Congress Councilor, FIR Lodged After Police Complaint

Raipur
Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation Mayor Safira Sahu has reportedly filed a written complaint at the City Kotwali police station against Congress Councilor Rajesh Rai, accusing him of making inappropriate comments. Safira claimed that Rajesh remarked, “Wearing a great saree, your cheeks are glowing.” This comment caused her mental distress. Following her complaint, the police have reportedly registered an FIR.
In her written statement to the police, Safira mentioned that on September 11, while leaving the municipal corporation and offering fruit to Councilor Suryapani, Rajesh Rai made the comment, “That’s why your cheeks are glowing.” Then, during a general assembly meeting at the municipal corporation on September 13, Rajesh reportedly commented again, saying, “You’re wearing a great saree.”
Mayor Safira Sahu said she was mentally harassed by these repeated inappropriate remarks and stated, “I am not just the Mayor but also a woman.” Despite attempts to reach Councilor Rajesh Rai for his side of the story, he did not respond.
FIR Registered, Police Investigation Underway
According to the police, an FIR has been lodged based on Mayor Sahu’s written complaint, and the investigation is ongoing.
Safira Sahu had been a member of the Congress party until a few months ago. Due to internal disagreements with the district president and the party organization, she left Congress and joined the BJP.
